Things ebb and flow in table tennis as in life. For the past ten years, West London Ping has plied its trade at the Chelsea Academy, both as a Centre of Excellence for the borough of Kensington and Chelsea and as an open gathering for the West London table tennis community.
Players and coaches alike have had Sunday the 10th of November in the back of their mind for some time now. It signifies the first National League fixture for Richmond Park Table Tennis club. A long day of table tennis awaited our two squads and a chance to compete with the best London has to offer.
In what was surely the strongest field yet in the London Community Ranking Tournaments, Band One literally sizzled with international talent including no less than four female players of international standing. But in the end it was two London based players; Bogdan Postudor and three times winner from the London Academy, Gabriel Achampong who clawed their way to the final.
After a hugely successful first tournament of the year in the Greenhouse Centre Marylebone, we are now taking bookings for our 6th London Ranking Tournament. This will take place at the London Academy Centre in Edgware on Saturday 2nd March.
The tenth and final tournament of the season was completed with one hundred and twenty entries and some spectacular table tennis.
The ninth London community ranking tournament of the 2018/19 season was a completely sold out event, held at the Richmond Park Academy, most noteworthy for the high number of young girls competing across the three bands.
Things don’t always turn out as planned. What was initially planned to be a Richmond Borough Primary School contest, turned into a fascinating battle between the Year7 Richmond Park Academy team and the Year 5’s from Barnes Primary.
Last weekend saw the eighth London Ranking Tournament unfold at the Greenhouse Sports Centre and the twenty plus West London Ping contingent gave a good account of themselves with eleven WLP combatants reaching the knockout stages and four of those reaching the quarter finals in what proved to be a very strong field.

On the second weekend of the Junior British League, the London Academy girls team of Natalia Ianau, Nomin Baasan, Annie Hedlund, Patricia Ianau and Nicole Scott dominate the Girls’ Premier Division, winning the first place title unbeaten.
Barnes Girls collect the silver medals in the Jack Petchey All London Championships held at the UEL on the 12th January.
The final touches are being put in place for a new community session to be held at the Richmond Park Academy on Tuesday afternoons starting from 5th February.
The fourth London Community Ranking Tournament was another huge success with an over-capacity entry in all bands and a record breaking 160 plus participants. So popular have these tournaments become that the organisers had to put up the ‘Sold Out’ sign a full 48 hours before the event.

It’s been another busy and successful year for West London Ping. A determined RBKC table tennis team, consisting of Harry Derecki, Brandon Cann and Shahinur Islam, achieved a significant sporting moment for the borough by winning the final round of the National Junior League held at the London Academy in Edgware over the Easter holidays.
In the inter-school section of the final round of the National Junior League held at the London Academy over the Easter holidays, it was William Hogarth who claimed the gold medals seeing off a scintillating late challenge from Barnes Primary School.

Table tennis players from the Barnes Primary School had a fabulously successful day at the first round of the National Junior League, held last weekend at the London Academy in Edgware. And this success came from many directions.
In what proved to be a stunning start to the National Junior League, the RBKC teams won no less than five of the eight divisions, whilst coming second in two others. A huge turnout of 150 participants saw a massive fifty-five playing under the RBKC banner.

After finishing the school year in July 2017, the London Academy Table Tennis Team did not have much of a summer break. In fact, they were training and competing at international scenes in the likes of Europe and the Middle East.

In the spirit of Ping England, West London Ping was very happy to accept an invitation to participate in the William Hogarth annual summer fair held on a very pleasant Saturday afternoon on the Chiswick Common. It turned out to be a tremendous table tennis day with over fifty youngsters along with a fair few mums, dads and grandparents competing for honours.
In the weekend starting 10th June, seven players from London Academy set out to be the best; winning a total of 7 titles in The Jack Petchey Schools Table Tennis Finals and the London Youth Games.

In an action packed couple of days, three schools from the West London Ping project scored emphatic victories in their mid-season table tennis endeavours. Harry Derecki, Ashburnham Primary School’s indefatigable No1 table tennis star has been given a call up for his first international duty at the weekend when he was selected to play for the English Schools National Primary School team in the Home Nations Championships in April.

Final preparations are now underway for the Jack Petchey Team Finals on Saturday to be held at the University of East London in Docklands. West London Ping is directly or partly responsible for no less than eight team finalists from six different schools; Barnes, Ashburnham and William Hogarth Primary schools, and The Chelsea Academy, Holland Park Academy and Richmond Park Academy.
The highlight of the week for West London Ping was the fiercely contested ‘friendly’ match between the Year 5 teams from William Hogarth and Ashburnham Primary, a match in which the Hogarth team narrowly won 32 games to 28.
With the running of the ESTTA London Qualification events now complete, I am pleased to announce that West London Ping scored a formidible ‘treble’ victory winning the South ( Barnes), Central (Ashburnham) and West London( William Hogarth) Under 11 boys tournaments In addition, the Barnes and Ashburnham Girls teams will automatically qualify for the Jack Petchey finals on the 14th January.
It was a great day for West London Ping, especially for the Chelsea Academy and Barnes Primary. Once again WLP had by far the largest contingent, with a squad in excess of fifty youngsters. In addition, four of our senior players, Parsa, Ghassan, Kingsley and Brandon, were busily engaged in working through their Level 1 coaching qualification.
Ernest Bevin College made amends for their surprise defeat in the Boys U13 Central London ESTTA Championships last Friday. They immediately went on to win the U19 event as well. Congratulations to the Holland Park girls (Arianna, Rose, Valentina and Colette) for winning the U16 girls event in a closely fought final against Sacred Heart.
UCS from Hampstead sprung a surprise victory in the Under 13’s ESTTA Central London qualifying event last Friday. In a very closely fought battle, the USC team overcame tournament favourites, Ernest Bevin College, to reach the Jack Petchey finals in January.
With Ashburnham Boys and Girls, William Hogarth Boys and Barnes Girls now safely through to the Jack Petchey ESTTA All London Finals, it leaves just Barnes Boys to qualify. So far a great start for the West London Ping Schools.
