End of an Era at Chelsea Academy
Chiswick Ping
Jon Kaufmann – 17th October 2017Chiswick Ping, part of the growing West London PIng/London Table Tennis Academy partnership, was launched last Wednesday at the William Hogarth School and early indications suggest that this is going to become a thriving weekly table tennis session. The session is open to students, family, neighbours, friends and teachers from across West London and beyond. Based on the highly successful Friday evening Chelsea Academy community sessions that have been running for the past six years, Chiswick Ping is looking to offer table tennis to all ages and all abilities.
Starting at 4.30pm immediately after the William Hogarth after- school club, and running for two hours until 6.30, these sessions aim to bring together all enthusiasts of table tennis in the local area. Entry fees, at £2 for students and £5 for adults, have been kept deliberately low so as to encourage whole families to attend. At present their are eight tables available but if the sessions start to take off, there is room for another eight tables.
Free coaching is available in the first hour and then a weekly ‘Top Table’ tournament begins at around 5.30. The highlight of the opening session was the arrival of two ex-Hogarth students; Khalid and Suhayb, both of whom provided some excellent coaching to the up and coming Hogarth youngsters. Encouragingly, three parents joined in the Top Table and made a very good account of themselves. We look forward to even more parents throwing themselves into action.
