End of an Era at Chelsea Academy
Weekly Report – Friday 23th September
Jon Kaufmann – 30th September 2016Another 40-plus evening with perhaps the highlight being the unexpected return of Waleed, a former young star from Fox Primary, who is looking to get back into the game after a five year break.
Arriving with four of his mates, Waleed was determined to recapture his old ‘top of the borough’ ranking. That of course will be difficult given the considerable improvement across the RBKC, but one has to admire the determination of the returnee. Chalking up five wins on the top table and comfortably remaining on the top five tables, one wouldn’t want to bet too heavily against Waleed making his way back into the borough top ten.
Harry Derecki continued his impressive form on the top table, securing a remarkable 14 wins, thus taking a commanding early lead in this year’s top table rankings. Other good performances were put in by Chelsea Academy No 1, Brandon Cann, with 10 wins, and Shahi, Zayne, Jene, Francesco, Suhab and Khalid all on seven wins. Perhaps the promise of big cash prizes for the top ten players at the end of the season is helping to focus minds. The prize fund has now increased from £100 to £150 with the possibility of it rising even higher.
Reminder: Places for the RBKC Junior National League teams are filling up quickly, so if you wish to play this season, get your form and cheque in ASAP.
