Weekly Report – William Hogarth take on Ashburnham Primary

Eamon Brennan – 13th December 2016

The highlight of the week for West London Ping was the fiercely contested ‘friendly’ match between the Year 5 teams from William Hogarth and Ashburnham Primary, a match in which the Hogarth team narrowly won 32 games to 28.

The Hogarth team consisted of five boys ( Rio, John, Sam, Luca and Zakky) and four girls (Carlotta, Darcey, Quinn and Mia) with all players contributing to the winning score.

A stand out performance came from Sam with six out of six wins and from Carlotta with an unbeaten five out of five. For the Ashburnham team it was a slightly more challenging affair, given that every year five student, no matter what their current skill level, was invited to play some matches. All Ashburnham students played with great determination, with particularly strong performances from Abdurahman and Isaac for the boys and Nyah and Grace for the girls. This match was part of a series of inter school matches between the West London Ping cluster of schools, providing excellent pre-tournament experience for all concerned.

The 16th December will be the last Chelsea Academy community session for the year, but the sessions will resume on the 6th January in preparation for the Jack Petchey All London team Finals. West London Ping will be impressively represented at these championships with two Ashburnham teams, two Barnes teams, a Chelsea Academy Boys Under 19 team, and for the very first time, a William Hogarth team. Good luck to all those competing.

Finally, I would like to wish all West London Ping players and their families a hearty seasons greetings, and with the added hope for a healthy and rewarding New Year for all. JK
