UK Table Tennis at the Rio Olympics

Jon Kaufmann – 22nd May 2016

Table Tennis will return to the Olympics for the eighth time since its inclusion in the 1988 Event in Seoul.

As in all things to do with ping, the Chinese have dominated those years, with only five gold medals going to non-Chinese players, and only one awarded to a European, the great Jan-Ove Waldner in Barcelona ’92.

Great Britain are pinning their hopes on Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford in the men’s events. The top two British players are used to each others presence at major tournaments, having represented their nation at the 2015 European Games in Baku. More importantly, they were a part of the England team which won bronze medals at the World Team Championships held at Kuala Lumpur in march.
